VIRGINA ATTORNEY GENERAL ENTERS INTO SETTLEMENT WITH MIDLAND
CREDIT RESULTING IN CANCELLATION OF $3.5 MILLION IN CREDIT CARD DEBT
Attorney General Darrell McGraw announced today that his office has entered into a settlement agreement with Midland Credit Management, Inc. ("Midland") of San Diego, California resulting in the cancellation of more than $3.5 million in credit card debt allegedly owed by approximately 3,500 West Virginia consumers. Midland had previously purchased the charged-off accounts for collection from Cross Country Bank of Wilmington, Delaware.

MARKETER OF "FREE CREDIT REPORTS" SETTLES FTC CHARGES
Consumerinfo.com, Inc., doing business as Experian Consumer Direct, has settled Federal Trade Commission charges that it deceptively marketed "free credit reports" by not adequately disclosing that consumers automatically would be signed up for a credit report monitoring service and charged $79.95 if they didn't cancel within 30 days, in violation of federal law.
